Ways to Use Scented Candles

Scented candles belong in that group of “risk free” gifts, along with classics like cute coffee mugs, picture frames and baked pastries. Everyone has probably received a scented candle as a gift of sorts at one point in life. Some take it the next level and make an effort to collect.

Scented candles belong in that group of "risk free" gifts, along with classics like cute coffee mugs, picture frames and baked pastries. Everyone has probably received a scented candle as a gift of sorts at one point in life. Some take it the next level and make an effort to collect.

Practicality wise, scented candles are not high up on the list. But there are several ways we can use them apart from collecting dust on display.

1.) Scented candles are mostly used for aromatherapy. The essential oils imbued in the product during the candle making process are what gives off the healing aroma. When you're feeling like a giant walking ball of stress, set up a comfy chair, light a couple of scented candles, lie back and close your eyes. The wonderful scents will soon help you unwind, and you will feel your stress being siphoned away by the relaxing aroma. Take it a notch higher, and throw in a good back rub or even a massage while you're at it. This is what scented candles are primarily used for, and they're very effective for their purpose.

2.) They can also serve as odor neutralizers. Remember that trick where people use lighters or matches to get rid of the lingering stink after using the bathroom for number 2? Well, scented candles do that while adding sweet and relaxing smells to the air. This can also be used for people with pets. Cat lovers might want to keep a couple of candles near the litter box to help neutralize the potency of cat waste. This can also be applicable to places with strong and not entirely pleasant odors such as pet food storage, kennels, feeding areas, etc. You can also use them to add pleasant scents to your linens and laundry, or put them inside your drawers.

3.) Aside from its pleasant aroma and relaxing properties, scented candles also make for great ambiance. It's not just their scent that adds a dash of romance in any give setting- it's also the soft candle light that bathes everything in a warm glow. Scented candles make even a patch of grass with a checked blanket look romantic. Light some on a cool summer evening while you're gazing up at the stars from the rooftop, or when you're getting a good soak in the bathtub.

4.) If you don't feel like using the candle for its scents, you can always use them as decorative pieces. With just a few stationery materials (like ribbons, gold glitter glue and art paper), they could serve as centerpieces for the holidays. It's all up to your imagination how you can turn a block of fragrant cooled wax into something amazing.

So what are you waiting for? If you've never tried actually lighting any of those scented candles you've received over the years, now is a good time to start.
